gong xi fa cai, hong bao na lai!!
i can't believe i'm actually into the chinese new year mood already! i blame the red decorations and oranges and oh-so-irritating chinese new year songs. this festive season i actually have the time to walk about, soak in the atmosphere, and psyche myself up for all the hype and celebrations to come. but the christmas that just passed was different. it was similar on the surface - the pretty decorations, the christmas trees and lovely christmas carols. but christmas came and went quickly, and i hardly caught it when it appeared.
i spent my christmas break carolling at old folks' homes and public places. i had a good time carolling, and made good friends too. on the whole it was an experience that i probably can't duplicate. it's just that after a while it became so tiring all i was looking forward to was the end of christmas. but looking back, it was a memorable journey. a whole mixture of stress, apprehension, courage and satisfaction. i never thought in my whole life i'd be teaching songs to a section, or for that matter conducting a choir. i exchanged this experience with a whole lot of sacrifices, ones that i had trouble dealing with. but i guess in life things happen for a reason and there's always a time and season for everything.
i was drawn into the chinese new year festive spirit by a mere night's walkabout in parkway. for your info, parkway super rocks my socks now!! there's been a whole new revamp done to two levels and it's oh-so-happening. (by parkway's standards) :D think topshop/topman, dorothy perkins, m)phosis, coffee bean etc. COOL right?!
i'm a true blue katong girl and i'm proud of it. :D
one last thing. a thought struck me when i was walking about in parkway.
thank God one difference between christmas and chinese new year is that people carol during christmas and no one does for chinese new year! i would just hide at home if shopping malls had choirs of people singing dong-dong-dong-chiang in harmony. actually i think they would sound better out of tune for such songs. imagine them in bright red outfits screaming for attention! and girls with pigtails tied with red ribbons, with red lipstick singing gong xi gong xi gong xi!!! oh help me!!! i cringe at the idea of choirs singing hideous chinese new year songs, but i think i would faint if i had to sing, teach, and conduct dong-dong-dong-chiangs.
i count my blessings!
